WHS's Mike Provenzano Inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame HBUHSD is excited to highlight Westminster High School's (WHS) Physical Education teacher and wrestling coach, Mike Provenzano for his induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame! Coach Provenzano has been around wrestling (as an athlete himself and a coach) for 53 years, 20 of those years as a coach and teacher at WHS. Mike Provenzano has an impressive wrestling history as a Huntington Beach High School Oiler, where he compiled a record of 120-12 and three CIF Division Championships. He placed 1st at 115 pounds, 2nd and 3rd in the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet, and placed 4th in 1979 and 2nd in 1980 in the CIF State Championships. Westminster High School is proud to have had Mr. Provenzano as a Lion for the last two decades, where he has embodied what it means to be #OneFamilyOnePride. Wrestling has shaped how he teaches and coaches, stating "If you work as hard as [your students] they have no excuses. They learn valuable life lessons as they dedicate themselves: mind, body, and soul to something that is hard. I am paying it forward to a sport that has brought me everything I cherish. I coach and give back, because somebody did it for me. 'Anything worth having is hard.'" Congratulations, Coach Provenzano! We are so proud of you! Published October 24, 2022 Print
