Edison High School SAC Students Enjoy a Day in the Water at Annual Surf-O-Rama HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Edison High School’s (EHS) Special Abilities Cluster (SAC) held their 7th annual Surf-O-Rama event on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Surf-O-Rama is a community favorite event for EHS SAC, where students with various levels of disabilities spent the morning at the beach learning how to surf with Corky Carroll’s Surf School. About 35 SAC students were in attendance, accompanied by approximately 40 volunteers. These volunteers, comprised of EHS surf and swim teams, EHS ASB, and Huntington Beach lifeguards, helped the SAC students get in the water, stand up on surfboards, and shred the waves. Throughout the event, smiles and tears were shed by students, families, and community members alike. “Surf-O-Rama is truly an amazing event,” explained EHS Special Programs Adminstrator Joe Loomis. “It’s incredible to watch how our community comes together to support our students and provide them with an opportunity that most students with disabilities would never have. There’s nothing that quite matches the joy of seeing families and friends watch and cheer on their loved ones with pride. Really, it’s days like these that make you extra grateful to be in education and to work with such remarkable students, staff, and community members.” When asked to share his thoughts on this year’s Surf-O-Rama, EHS SAC student Greg Groce exclaimed with a smile, “Best day ever!” This heartfelt and incredible day would not be possible without the help and support of EHS families and the Huntington Beach community. Surf-O-Rama is sponsored by Corky Carroll’s Surf School, Dr. Jeff Coleman, DDS, and Huntington State Beach Lifeguards, with food catered by Northside Cafe. The Huntington Beach Union High School District appreciates the efforts of so many individuals and organizations who made Surf-O-Rama’s seventh year so successful. It was such an impactful and memorable day for all, and we look forward to enjoying this event for years to come. Published October 25, 2023 Print
