HBUHSD Annual Unified Sports Golf Tournament Brings in $13,000 for Unified Sports HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - On Monday, February 27th, the Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) hosted its annual Unified Sports Golf Tournament fundraiser at the Huntington Club. During this event, HBUHSD’s Unified Sports program raised $13,000 for the 2024-2025 school year, thanks to various sponsors, donations, and golfers. Unified Sports, supported by Special Olympics, offers opportunities for students with and without disabilities to participate and compete together on various sports teams. Within HBUHSD, schools engage in friendly competition across basketball, flag football, soccer, track & field, and volleyball, and enjoy a baseball clinic and unified cheer activities throughout the year. The Unified Sports program at HBUHSD is self-sustained, relying on donated funds to ensure its ongoing success. This is the driving force behind fundraising events such as the Unified Sports Golf Tournament. The $13,000 raised during this year’s event will go towards uniforms, transportation, lunches for athletes on tournament days, and any additional costs associated with running a quality Unified Sports program. 109 golfers participated in this year’s event to enjoy the game and support Unified Sports. The day commenced with an exciting ball drop, with over 225 golf balls released from an aerial ladder on a fire truck, thanks to the Huntington Beach Fire Department. Following a day of camaraderie on the course, participants gathered at the club for raffles and silent auctions, featuring prizes generously contributed by 25 different companies. Attendees were also given the chance to sponsor a Unified Sports student, covering the expenses for their full year of participation. “Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Unified Sports Golf Tournament as a golfer, donor, or volunteer,” exclaimed HBUHSD Unified Sports Liaison, Courtney Gillett. “Because of your contributions, we’re able to provide life-changing experiences for our students and partners alike, and we look forward to the impact this program will continue to have for years to come.” The Huntington Beach Union High School District extends its gratitude to all who endorse the Unified Sports program, take part in our yearly Unified Sports Golf Tournament, and cheer on our athletes throughout the year’s events. It's through your generous contributions and active involvement that students across the district can embrace the unique and uniting experiences this program provides.
