Fountain Valley High School Announces New Girls’ Basketball Head Coaches

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) is excited to announce Camryn Hamaguchi and Izabella Om as the new co-head coaches of their girls' basketball program.

Camryn Hamaguchi and Izabella Om come to Fountain Valley with impressive basketball resumes. Hamaguchi was a four-year varsity starter and two-year varsity captain at Kennedy High School, where she broke the record for highest free throw percentage in a season and was named the Empire League MVP in 2016 and Kennedy Female Athlete of the Year in 2017. After high school, Hamaguchi continued her education and athletic career at Chapman University, where she competed on the women’s basketball and track and field teams and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Business in 2020. Following her passion for athletics, she then attended Concordia University, where she graduated in 2023 with her Master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration.

Hamaguchi is currently the Director of Ironmen Basketball, where she has been working since 2016, but recently stepped into the director position in 2023. She has also spent time as the strength and conditioning coach at Kennedy High School from 2018-2020, the head girls JV basketball coach at Mater Dei High School in 2020-2021, and the assistant women’s basketball coach at Concordia University (NCAA Division 2) from 2021-2023.

Izabella Om was a four-year varsity starter and three-year varsity captain at Fairmont Preparatory Academy, where she was named the San Joaquin League MVP in 2018 and Fairmont Prep Female Athlete of the Year in 2019. She was also selected as the CIF Division 1 second team player in both 2017 and 2018, second team All-Orange County player in 2019, and ranked number two in the country for assist rate by Nike EYBL in 2018. Om continued her athletic career at the University at Albany, where she played NCAA Division 1 women’s basketball and graduated in 2023 with her Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Law.

After graduation, Om competed in the Southeast Asian Olympics (SEA GAMES) for the Cambodian National Basketball Team. Om is currently coaching four teams for Ironmen Basketball, where she has been working since 2023.

“Fountain Valley High School is extremely excited to have both Camryn and Izabella here to lead our girls’ basketball program!” exclaimed FVHS Athletic Director Roger Holmes. “Both incredible players in their own right, they will bring excitement, an incredible work ethic, and a commitment to developing our student-athletes in all aspects of their young lives. FVHS is looking forward to the continuing growth of our girls’ basketball program.”

Camryn Hamaguchi shared, “I am so excited to be taking over the Fountain Valley girls’ program alongside two of my closest friends! As a Fountain Valley local, it feels like I’m truly coming home. This is such an exciting opportunity, and we’re looking forward to taking FV girls' basketball to the next level.”

“I am absolutely thrilled to be taking on this role with my good friend, Cam,” explained Izabella Om. “We both bring a high caliber of coaching and playing experience that we believe will help this program thrive. I am so excited to be back home in Southern California working with such bright and talented young ladies. We are looking forward to many great seasons here at FVHS!”
