HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - The Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) is excited to announce Tim Floyd as Marina High School’s (MHS) next principal, pending Board approval.

Floyd enters his new role at MHS with 16 years of experience within HBUHSD, nine of which were spent as an assistant principal at three different schools. In 2008, Floyd began his educational career as a teacher at Edison High School before moving into a leadership role within Edison’s administration in 2015 where he oversaw supervision. He then transitioned to Huntington Beach High School where he became the Assistant Principal of Guidance and Curriculum and Instruction from 2015-2021. At the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year, Floyd stepped into the Assistant Principal of Guidance role at MHS, where he has proven his leadership skills through dedication to student success and positive campus culture.

Throughout his years at HBUHSD, Floyd has always emphasized innovation and learning, as seen through his involvement in teams centered on teacher and student success, leadership, strategic planning, and inclusion. Floyd’s desire to help students succeed goes well beyond the walls of HBUHSD. As an active participant in state leadership groups, Floyd has shared his immense knowledge and firsthand experiences through presentations on leadership and student preparedness at conferences and symposiums over the last six years.

“I am grateful to have called Marina home for the past three years,” shared Tim Floyd, “and I am honored and excited to step into the role of principal. I’m inspired by the incredible energy and limitless talent of our students and staff, and I’m excited to build on Marina’s tradition of excellence. Together, we will embrace new ideas, foster creativity and innovation, and empower our students to make a difference in the world.”

HBUHSD’s Deputy Superintendent of Human Resources Dr. Carolee Ogata expressed, “We are so excited to have Tim Floyd leading the students and staff at Marina High School. Tim embodies a leader who focuses on student growth and achievement, collaboration, and communication. As an integral part of Marina’s administration over the last three years, he has embraced what it means to be a Viking.”

Under Tim Floyd’s leadership, HBUHSD is confident in the future of Marina High School. Floyd’s ability to foster a positive environment of excellence will contribute to the ongoing success of programs, students, and staff for years to come.
