This grant was offered to fund projects that establish or expand infrastructure necessary to store, distribute and dispense compressed natural gas for use in natural gas vehicles. 

Back in 2012, the California Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Air Resources Board adopted that all heavy-duty diesel buses and trucks that operate in the state be replaced or upgraded to reduce emissions.  Currently, the HBUHSD has 11 new CNG buses and 25 diesels buses that will have to be replaced by the 2018-19 school year.  This CNG grant will allow the district to create the necessary fueling station for these new, emission-reducing buses.
