This annual international health campaign is organized by major breast cancer charities and establishments to increase awareness of the disease and help fund research.

In the Huntington Beach Union High School District’s own effort to help raise awareness and show support, staff members at the district office wore pink on Oct. 16. In addition, a potluck luncheon was held with special pink desserts.

Throughout the rest of the HBUHSD, school sites have also showed their support by raising awareness and funds for the cause through athletic events. Last Friday, Oct. 9, Westminster High School hosted Ocean View High School for their “Think Pink” football game. The team, staff and fans showed their Lion pride while wearing pink. At Fountain Valley High School, the girl’s volleyball program hosted a “Crush Cancer” game against Marina High School. Booths were set up to raise funds for donation to cancer research organizations.

Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women. Before the month concludes, all six comprehensive high schools will have held at least one Breast Cancer Awareness Month event to help prevent and support against this disease.
