To prepare for the lunchtime festivities, Westminster students, staff and administrators worked long hours in order to transform a section of the campus with altars, or ofrendas, in remembrance of the deceased. These elaborate altars included pictures of the dead along with traditional objects like pan de muerto (sweet bread), candles and the Aztec flower of the dead (orange and yellow marigolds).

Additionally, individuals who wore customary calaveras makeup, which resembles a decorated human skull, could be seen throughout the celebration area. For this special event, Westminster also created shirts with the school’s saying, "It's a pride thing," and a Lion head with a "skull candy" twist.

Joseph Fraser, Principal at Westminster High School, expressed how proud he was to see his students and staff members involved in an event so culturally rich and significant in today’s society.
