The interdistrict transfer process applies to families who live outside of the Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) boundary lines but wish to have their child attend a school within HBUHSD. All interdistrict requests must be initiated in the district of residence. An approved interdistrict agreement must be in effect between the district of residence and HBUHSD before a student can attend their desired school within HBUHSD.

Interdistrict Transfer Window for the 2025-2026 school year: January 13, 2025 - February 28, 2025

 

If you live outside the boundaries of the Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) and would like your student to be considered for enrollment at one of our six high schools (Edison, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Marina, Ocean View, or Westminster), you must first obtain an approved Interdistrict Attendance Agreement from your district of residence.

Note: The Interdistrict Attendance Agreement must be issued by your district of residence.

How to Apply:

The application link will be available beginning Monday, January 13, 2025. To apply for an interdistrict transfer to HBUHSD for the 2025-2026 school year, you must complete and submit an online HBUHSD Interdistrict application. The application will not be considered unless all required documents are submitted. Missing documents will result in an incomplete application.

Required Attachments for Submission:

1. An approved Interdistrict Attendance Agreement or an approved confirmation email (must include the student’s name) from the district of residence.
2. The student’s most recent transcript.
3. Attendance record.
4. Disciplinary record (if the student does not have a disciplinary record, supporting documentation must be submitted).
5. Individualized Educational Program (IEP) – applicable only for Special Education students.

Important Information:
Students will be considered for a transfer based on enrollment criteria and program availability, as outlined in HBUHSD Administrative Regulation 5116.2. While HBUHSD will make every effort to accommodate a parent’s request for a specific school, placement at the requested school cannot be guaranteed.

OUTGOING INTERDISTRICT TRANSFERS  (REQUESTS TO ATTEND SCHOOLS OUTSIDE HBUHSD)

Families residing within HBUHSD boundaries who wish to attend school in another district must complete the online Interdistrict Attendance Agreement form to request a release from HBUHSD. Please be prepared to include a supplemental attachment verifying your identity as the student's parent, licensed foster agency representative, group home representative, or legal guardian appointed by the California Superior Court.
After your application is approved, a completed Interdistrict Attendance Agreement will be emailed to the address provided. Parents/guardians are responsible for submitting the approved HBUHSD release to the district where attendance is being requested. Additionally, please review the Interdistrict application process for the desired district.
