Why HBUHSD?

Our six comprehensive high schools, two alternative high schools, and adult education program enjoy both local recognition as well as a national reputation. Our successes including high test scores, interscholastic championships, and acclaimed performing arts are a direct result of a strong teaching faculty, a dedicated classified staff, and a strong leadership team of school site administrators that receive support from a well-respected and knowledgeable Board of Trustees. This, coupled with strong parent and community advocates, enables our district to educate, prepare, and inspire our students to change the world.

Enroll your student in a district where they will succeed!

LIVE OUTSIDE THE HBUHSD BOUNDARIES? LEARN HOW TO TRANSFER INTO HBUHSD:

If you reside outside the HBUHSD boundaries and wish for your student to be considered for enrollment in one of our six comprehensive high schools (Edison, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Marina, Ocean View, or Westminster), you must first be released from your district of residence by obtaining an Interdistrict Attendance Agreement.

The process to apply for an Interdistrict transfer to the HBUHSD requires the submission of an HBUHSD Interdistrict application with the following attachments:

  • An approved Interdistrict Attendance Agreement, or approved confirmation email (must include student's name) from the resident district
  • Most recent transcript or report card
  • Attendance record
  • Disciplinary record (if a student does not have a discipline record, documentation must be submitted)
  • Individualized Educational Program (applicable to Special Education students only).

LIVE WITHIN THE HBUHSD BOUNDARIES, BUT WANT TO TRANSFER TO A DIFFERENT HBUHSD SITE?

If you reside within the HBUHSD boundaries but wish to attend an HBUHSD school that is not your designated "home" school, you may apply to any District school during the Open Enrollment window.

The following conditions also apply to open enrollment intradistrict transfer requests:

  • Parents must provide transportation.
  • Space must be available at the school of choice.
  • The transition from middle school to high school is not based on a previous/current school of attendance; it is solely based on primary residence address.
  • Once a request is submitted, the parent and student agree to commit to the school of desired attendance for one year.
  • There is no need to reapply if your child is currently on an open enrollment transfer; a new application is only required if you wish to change schools.
  • You must be pre-enrolled and have a valid HBUHSD student ID number to apply for an intradistrict transfer.
  • Students receiving Special Education Services require final approval from the Executive Director of Special Education.
